Two Louisiana murder suspects captured hiding out in Waco

Two Louisiana murder suspects were arrested by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Waco Thursday afternoon.

Devin Holefield, 25, and Devonta Orphey, 23, both from Lake Charles, are accused of committing two armed robberies early Monday morning at two different locations in the Lake Charles area. The second robbery ended with a victim being shot dead.

The U.S. Marshals Service said several suspects were caught immediately, but Holefield and Orphey fled the scene. On Thursday morning, investigators received information that both men were hiding at the Landmark Apartments located at 344 Richland Dr. in Waco.

Marshals and members of the fugitive task force set up surveillance and identified the suspects in the parking lot next to a vehicle with Louisiana plates, according to law enforcement. Officers surrounded and arrested the two suspects, seizing two loaded firearms and multiple boxes of ammunition -- along with the suspects' vehicle, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Holefield and Orphey were taken to the McLennan County Jail, from where they will be extradited to Louisiana.

“The most effective tool we have on the fugitive task force is the ability to immediately mobilize officers to combat violent offenders in our area," Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Dan Phillips said. "Every agency involved is committed to being a team and keeping this community safe, no matter who makes the arrest.”

Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Waco include deputies from the McLennan County Sheriff's Office, troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety, U.S. Marshals and officers from the Waco Police Department.
