(KXAN) - Former capitol aide Gabrielle Nestande was assaulted behind bars Saturday night. A fellow inmate, 27 year old Rachel Castillo, has been charged with assaulting her at the Travis County Correctional Complex.
According to court records, Castillo punched Nestande on her head and face.
Nestande received a laceration above her left eye and contusions to the right side of her head.
The affidavit said Nestande did not know why Castillo attacked her.
Nestande's attorney, Perry Minton, said Castillo was put in solitary confinement following the incident, and that Nestande is recovering from her injuries.
Castillo has a criminal record including DWI, theft, driving with a suspended license and prostitution.
Nestande is nearing the end of her jail time for the hit and run death of Courtney Griffin.
