BELTON - Drivers in Belton will face a bit of a traffic headache for up to four months as construction on a roundabout begins at the intersection of Sparta Road and Commerce Dr.
The City of Belton said people will still be able to access all of the businesses in the area, but may have to take an alternate route.
Drivers will not be able to get to Loop 121 on Sparta from Main St. The city recommends drivers take Lake Road between Loop 121 and Main St.
Traffic coming North on Commerce will have to take a detour just before the intersection to turn left onto Sparta Road.
The construction of the roundabout was planned with the goal of minimizing impact upon school bus schedules.
The project also includes the widening of Sparta to add a middle turning lane from just east of Commerce to Loop 121, adding a 10-foot sidewalk on the south side of the road, and improving the right turn lanes at Sparta and Loop 121.
Once the roundabout it finished, the rest of the project will be completed under traffic. The overall project is expected to take a year to complete.
