Centex Astonomical Society to host star parties

This weekend the Central Texas Astronomical Society will host free public star parties at Overlook Park near Belton and the Hubbard City Lakes Park in Hubbard.

Telescopes will be provided by CTAS members to view the visible planets and a selection of star clusters, nebulas, and galaxies.

Due to vast distances, all celestial objects appear to be equally far away.

The Sombrero Galaxy is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Virgo, located 28 million light years distant, the society stated. Jupiter is also in the constellation Virgo this month and is only 33 light minutes away. Global cluster Messier 4 is a globular cluster in the constellation Scorpius. The society said M4 is very easy to locate due to it being very close to the bright star Antares.

Visitors will be able to look at these celestial objects and many more this month.
