Cultural Arts Festival draws record crowds

WACO - The 2016 Waco Cultural Arts Festival wrapped up Sunday at the Waco Convention Center.

But not before seeing its largest crowds ever.

This is the first year the festival was held on the first weekend in October instead of the last weekend in September.

Organizers say the cooler weather helped, as 15-2- thousand people showed up at the three-day event.  In fact, the crowds were large enough that the festival sometimes ran out of supplies.

"I think we've been out three times to buy more supplies for the arts activities we have," Festival Chairman Doreen Ravenscroft said.  "It's just an amazing day of bringing the community together to do and enjoy the arts."

One big hit was a giant owl, which Ravenscroft said was to show creativity can come through engineering, involving math and science.

Next Year's festival is set for the first weekend in October.
