WHITNEY - Morgan’s Point Resort Dive team is working to recover the bodies of a 29-year-old man and his 11-year-old daughter after they drowned Saturday morning at Lake Whitney.

According to the Morgan’s Point Resort Police Chief, they received a call from Hill County EMS about the drowning at 11:30 a.m.

Officials said the girl fell into a void in the lake and her father jumped into to the water to try to save her.

A boater called 911 when they did not surface. He tried to rescue both victims but was unsuccessful.

Dive teams have been in the water since 2:45 p.m. trying to recover the bodies from the lake. The search at this time is primarily by touch due to visibility being near zero. Officials said they have not found any strong undertow or strong currents but there is a channel.

A specialty boat with a better sonar from Temple has been called to the lake. The boat can sense forms better and is more direct than the side sonar system divers are currently using.

The family moved to the area a couple of weeks ago just beyond where crews have been searching.

Crews have suspended the search for Saturday night and will resume Sunday.
