CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Corpus Christi police shut down traffic to the Harbor Bridge Thursday after an 18-wheeler involved in a collision with another truck ruptured its tank and exploded.
According to police, the tanker was hauling crude oil when it crashed with a dump truck at the base of the Harbor Bridge in the northbound lanes. The bridge was closed to traffic as firefighters worked to put out the blaze and clear the scene.
Thankfully, both drivers escaped unharmed. Police confirmed Friday that the driver of the dump truck was cited for failure to maintain a single lane.

As of around 4 p.m. Thursday, police said the northbound Harbor Bridge on ramp from North Mesquite Street, next to the old County Courthouse, was reopened. Alternate routes to Portland include northbound I-37 from Shoreline Boulevard to Highway 181, the Joe Fulton Corridor and the Port Aransas Ferry.
Officials told 3News that investigations into the structural integrity of the bridge have yet to begin.
