Fire burns through 80 acres of land in Moody

MOODY - A fire Wednesday afternoon in rural Bell County scared homeowners and evacuated homes.

It happened around 2;00 pm. and burned through 80 acres.

The fire started when a man was welding together a pipe fence. Officials don’t know yet whether the sparks started the fire or if it started when he set down his torch.

The call came in around 2:00 p.m. near the corner of McLennan, Coryell and Bell Counties. Fifteen agencies responded to the scene.

John Phillips, Morgan’s Point Resort Fire Chief said five houses were threatened as winds spread the fire in their direction.

They were evacuated as a precaution and no homes were lost. However, the fire got within 30 feet of each house.

The fire was under control at 3:30 p.m.

No structures or lives were lost and the damage was limited to one cargo trailer.
