BELTON - Thousands of people in Bell County don't have dental insurance leaving them helpless when faced with a medical emergency, but a new dental clinic in Belton is looking to change that. The Body of Christ Dental Clinic will officially open it's doors later this month. It's a free dental clinic in Belton that will provide services like cleanings and extractions to people in need in the area.
Clinic researchers say almost 60 thousand people living in Bell County are uninsured and over half of the residents there don't have access to dental care. After hearing the numbers clinic directors say they wanted to make treatment possible for everyone.
"We literally had people who have had such a toothache that they've taken a pair of pliers and pulled their own tooth, that's what we don't want to happen. We want people to be able to come here and let us do it in a professional manner and less painful manner" says Clinic Board of Directors Member John Perry.
It took two years to raise all the money to open the clinic. Perry says seeing it come to life has been emotional.
"When you come to our clinic and see how we really and truly want to help these people it gets you right in the heart" says Perry.
It's a feeling he hopes the clinic will provide to those in need for many years to come.
The clinic is located at 1508 Oleta St. The clinic will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 21st at 11:30. Days and hours of operation for the clinic will be announced shortly after the ceremony. For more information about the clinic call 254- 939- 9500 or visit www.bodyofchristclinic.org.
