Girlfriend arrested after mother finds son dead at home

SAN ANTONIO - A mother finds her son dead in what police said was the result of a fight between him and his girlfriend.

Laura Flores Messick, 30, is behind bars for the murder of Chason Montez-Deoca.

Saturday, police arrived at the victim's home in the 7600 block of Mule Lane after the victim's mother found him dead in a pool of blood on the floor. His mother said the victim called the night before to say that he and Messick were fighting.

Police later interviewed Messick who lived with Montez-Deoca and she admitted to police that she killed him.

Messick told police they were at a bar Friday when they got into a fight. When they got home, the argument continued.

She told police she then pulled out a gun and shot Montez-Deoca twice, once in the chest and in the hand. Messick said as she was firing she was thinking "what a jerk."

Messick told police was still angry and not sure if Montez-Deoca was for sure dead so she also slit his throat with a kitchen knife. She then fled the home.

The victim’s mother found him the next day when she couldn't get a hold of him.

Messick remains behind bars on a $75,000 bond.
