Healthy Habits with Heidi: The Perfect Breakfast

What to eat for breakfast.

Healthy Habits- Finding the right breakfast isn't an easy task, especially when you're in a hurry in the morning. Sometimes it's timing that leads us to make poor eating decisions. We spoke to Blair Murphy, the Wellness Program Director of McLane Children's Hospital in Temple about eating the right breakfast.

Murphy says the key to any healthy habit starts with getting the right amount of sleep. When you first wake up, she says you want to have breakfast within the first 30 minutes in order to get the metabolism. She also encourages you to not rush for the coffee, try drinking a big cup of water as you start your day.

She also touched on the importance of fruits, vegetables, and eggs. And don't fall for all the breakfast trends you hear about on TV or through your friends. Breakfast options like oatmeal may seem healthy, but in all reality, they contain a high amount of sugar. As for dairy, Murphy says it's important to keep the dairy intake to a limited. Try other alternative like almond, coconut, and soy milk to avoid large intakes of dairy.
