Killeen Police have identified the pedestrian killed in a crash on IH-14, formerly 190, just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Police Spokesperson Ofelia Miramontez said the preliminary investigation determined 56-year-old Wayne Clarke, of Killeen, was walking north across IH-14 when he was hit by a maroon Dodge pick-up that was driving eastbound in the center lane. Miramontez said the male driver told officers he spotted a dark silhouette in the road, but he "was unable to take evasion action" and crashed into Clarke.
The driver was not hurt, and nobody else was in the vehicle.
Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke ordered an autopsy, which will be done at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
