AT&T outage shuts down City of Temple and Belton phone lines

Main phone lines in Temple and Belton are back up and running after an outage.

TEMPLE - Update (2:45 p.m.): Phone services have been restored.

All City of Belton and Temple main phone lines -- including police department lines -- went down Monday morning, officials in both cities confirmed.

In a Facebook post, the Belton Police Department urged anyone needing assistance to call the Bell County Communications Center until further notice. The center's number is 254-933-5570.

Temple Police Spokesperson Shawana Neely said the communication center was aware of the issue, which may cause an increased call volume.

Temple City Spokesperson Shannon Gowan said the cause of the issue was a nationwide AT&T network outage affecting Texas and other parts of the United States. The AT&T outage impacted municipalities like Temple that use fiber IP services. Gowan said the city still had a few analog services that were working.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
