Man linked to Killeen murder arrested by U.S. Marshals in Austin

A man linked to Killeen murder was arrested in Austin last night.

AUSTIN - A man wanted in connection with a Killeen murder was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Austin on New Year's eve.

John Eric Saenz was arrested during a traffic stop around 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Killeen Police said Saenz was linked to the Dec. 9 murder of Jason Francisco Munayco, 41, who died from a gunshot wound he sustained in the 1300 block of Bonnie Drive in Killeen. Detectives said they believed Saenz was present during the shooting but declined to elaborate.

After the Bell County District Attorney's Office reviewed the case in December, Saenz was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon -- at which time a warrant was issued for his arrest. At the time the warrant was issued, police considered Saenz armed and dangerous, urging people not to try to detain him.

Saenz will be extradited back to Killeen, as police continue their homicide investigation.
