UPDATE: Waco Police have arrested 35-year-old Randall Bryant Worley and charged him with failure to stop and render aid-death after he struck 59-year-old Kevin Barry Gerard McAndrew in the 600 block of Hewitt Drive on Christmas Eve.
Police said Mr. Worley initially left the scene of the crash and returned shortly after. Detectives obtained a warrant after their investigation, but Worley turned himself in Monday at the McLennan County Jail.
A Hewitt man is dead after being struck by a vehicle just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Hewitt Drive.
Officials said an initial investigation revealed a 59-year-old Kevin Barry Gerard McAndrew had just been shopping at a store on Hewitt drive.
Investigators believe McAndrew may have inadvertently left items on the roof of his car. When he pulled out of the parking lot onto Hewitt Drive, the item fell into the lane of traffic.
McAndrew stopped his vehicle on the shoulder, walked into the roadway to retrieve the item, and was struck by a passing vehicle.
Police are still investigating the incident.
