Mart police investigating attempted child abduction

A child walking home from school in Mart was almost kidnapped and managed to get away.

MART - Police are searching for a man who attempted to kidnap a girl Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Limestone and Booth Street in Mart.

According to police, the girl said she was walking home after leaving a school event and was approached by a white man.

The suspect was described as an older white male approximately 5’9, salt and pepper hair, and scruffy facial hair with a skinny build. He was wearing a black sweatshirt and shorts with green stripe running along the shorts. His vehicle was described as a black car.

The suspect grabbed the victim‘s arm tightly and asked if she want a ride. The girl told the suspect no and broke free from his grip and ran away as she feared for her safety.

The victim was not injured at the time of the attempted abduction.

The investigation is ongoing.
