Midway High School student killed in ATV accident

Midway High School is mourning the loss of a student who was killed in an ATV accident near Speegleville.

WACO - A Midway High School student was killed Wednesday night in an ATV accident near Speegleville.

According to the McLennan County Sheriff's Office the 15-year-old Devon Walker ran into a post and was thrown from the ATV.

He later died at the hospital.

A spokesperson for Midway High School said they were in contact with the student's parents.

The school district released the following statement:

It gives us great sorrow to inform you that Devon Walker, a junior at Midway High School, passed away last night after an ATV accident. Devon was a member of the MHS Marching Band, and the loss of a beloved friend and student will affect many students and staff.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Walker family. Our thoughts, prayers, and support are with them.

Midway’s counseling staff is available for any of our Midway family to assist in dealing with emotions in this difficult time. Encourage your child to share their feelings and talk to you and counselors.

At this time funeral and memorial arrangements are undetermined. We will share more information as available. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our MHS Counseling Office at 254-761-5650.

The school district said the band will not be performing at the Midway v. Killeen-Ellison game Thursday night. There will be a moment of silence in his honor during halftime.
