New law could impact ability to sell homes near Fort Hood

Homeowners in Killeen and the surrounding area will soon have to warn potential owners of possible loud noises from Fort Hood before selling their homes.

Homeowners in Killeen and the surrounding area will soon have to warn potential homeowners of potential loud noises from Fort Hood before selling their homes, according to a new law signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

House Bill 890, which takes effect Sept. 1, amends the Seller's Disclosure to include a notice that properties located near military installations like Fort Hood may be subjected to high noise and other impacts from regular military operations.

While for most folks living in Central Texas, the idea that Fort Hood makes noise is common sense, the new law makes it a legal requirement to notify those searching for homes -- something that could potentially affect a homeowner's ability to sell their property.
