Overnight high-speed chase in Killeen leads to arrest of wanted man

KILLEEN - A wanted man was arrested early Wednesday morning after lengthy chase in Killeen.

According to police, about 1:30 a.m., an officer tried to stop a vehicle for several traffic violations in the area of Old 440 and Jasper Road.

Roger Engleton Jr., the driver of a gray Chrysler Aspen refused to stop and sped away from the officer and the pursuit began. The driver then fled onto Highway 190 up to speeds of nearly 70 mph toward Copperas Cove.

The driver went down several roadways trying to escape and eventually returned to Highway 190. The car crashed into a fence after the Engleton drove off the south side of the roadway just before the Clark Road Exit.

Engleton fled the car on foot jumping over two fences, one which was a barbed wire fence until he was caught by an officer. He was taken into custody and was treated by EMS at the scene for injuries he received going over the barbed wire fence.

The suspect refused to be transported to the hospital and was taken to the Killeen City Jail. Engleton was served with several warrants from other agencies.

Engleton has been charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle and Unlawful Possession of Firearm by a Felon.

He remains in the Killeen City Jail awaiting arraignment for those charges.
