Runners fight human trafficking

UnBound held a 5k to raise money and awareness for human trafficking in Central Texas.

WACO - About 1,000 community members participated in the 4th annual Light Up the Dark 5k at McLane Stadium on Saturday.

The event was hosted by UnBound, an organization that fights human trafficking in our area.  The 5k raises money and awareness for trafficking, which organizers say is a hidden reality in Central Texas.

"We really wanted to shed light on the subject of human trafficking," UnBound Executive Director Susan Peters said.  "Because it's such a dark subject, it can be overwhelming or even scary for people.  But really, it's full of hope when the community comes together."

The 5k is UnBound's largest fundraiser each year, usually generating $12-15 thousand.
