TEMPLE - Temple Parks & Recreation will host a formal grand reopening ceremony Saturday June 24 commemorating the completion of the renovations and upgrades made to the Sammons Community Center, located at 2220 W. Avenue D in Temple.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be begin at 10 a.m., followed by a tour of the facility. Live music, refreshments, and door prize giveaways will be available from 11 a.m. to noon.
The renovation project was funded from the Parks Bond, which residents passed in May of 2015.
Improvements made to the Sammons Community Center include: a newly redesigned facility entrance, interior renovations featuring additional classroom space, expanded restrooms, a new deck with built-in seating overlooking Lake Polk and Sammons Golf Course, a reconfigured parking lot including additional handicapped parking spaces, road work to the facility entrance and landscaping.
The construction took nearly 8.5 months to complete and cost an estimated $1,750,000.
“We cannot wait to reopen the doors to the Sammons Community Center this Saturday and want to express our gratitude to the residents of Temple for allowing us to make these much needed improvements to the Center,” said Kevin Beavers, Director of Temple Parks & Recreation. “This facility will be able to serve our community for years to come. We hope you will be able to join us this Saturday to see everything the new Sammons Community Center has to offer.”
Danny Dunn, Temple Mayor, as well as select City Council members are expected to be in attendance.
