Five six seven eight! will be ringing out across Waco Hall this Friday as the annual Stompfest competition once again takes center stage. Students from Baylor have been training for months in preparation for April 7, with many having little to no experience in the dance Step. The competition sees eight teams compete in cash prizes and maybe even more importantly, bragging rights.
The style of dancing has African roots and can even be linked to the African-American railroad workers who used stepping as a form of storytelling and a way to forget about their pain. Stompfest was originally called the Afro-Olympics beginning in 2001. Participation is open to any organization or current Baylor student and are coached by a member of the National Pan-Hellenic Organization.
The dancing starts at 7.30pm this Friday April 7 at Waco Hall.
