Summer jobs for teens are still available in Bell County

Andrew Moore reports.

TEMPLE - Now that kids have been out of school for a few weeks, they might be looking for their first job.

But is it already too late?

Channel 6 went out in Temple Thursday to find out who is hiring and what they are looking for.

For students searching for a summer job, it is best to try to get that set up by the end of the school year. The good news is, there are still some employers out there willing to hire kids during the summer, and maybe even keep them after.

One good place to look for jobs is the local cities themselves.

The City of Temple still has a few openings at the Lions Junction Family Water Park for lifeguards and guest services.

The city said candidates need to make sure they are comfortable with all aspects of the job description beforehand.

They said having a clean resume is very important and if the applicant wants to be a life guard, certifications are required.

There are also some job opportunities at stores like Home Depot and Best Buy.

At Home Depot, applicants must be at least 18, but Best Buy will hire 16-year-olds.

While employers look at many factors before hiring, they said just coming in with a positive attitude counts for a lot.

Eric Reeves, Best Buy Assistant Store Manager said they are trying to enrich people’s lives.

“We are going to weigh more on their attitude than what their experience may be,” Reeves said.

Chuck Ramm of Temple Parks and Recreations said applications and resumes are very important.

“That is the first thing we are going to see,” Ramm said. “How neat is your resume. How ell is it filled out?”
