Suspect follows victims from bank, steals cash from cars, Waco PD say

Waco police are warning people to be cautious of their surroundings after two recent vehicle burglaries.

At least two cases or being worked on by detectives where the suspect is following victims from local banks, according to Waco Police Sergeant Patrick Swanton

Officers were told the suspect waits until the victim gets money and follow them to their next destination. This crime is referred to as Bank Jugging. 

After the victim parks their car, the suspect breaks in and steals money left behind.

Waco police said another local agency is working a similar incident involving a school employee coming back from the bank on her lunch hour. She was followed by a black male suspect in black vehicle, who broke into her car and took her money.

All cases happened around noon time and involved the same description of the suspect following the victims form a bank.

Police advises people who believe they are being followed to go to a safe place and immediately dial 911.

Waco police released the following tips: 

Tips when Banking:

  • Occupied vehicles backed into parking spaces with clear view of bank, ATM or drive thru line.
  • Vehicles arriving at bank with no occupants entering the bank
  • Vehicles with dark tinted windows with little or limited visibility of  occupants
  • Vehicles changing parking spaces * Vehicles with multiple occupants 

Don't be a Target:

  • ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings
  • Conceal money BEFORE leaving bank.
  • Don't openly carry bank bags, envelops or coin boxes
  • Don't leave or try to hide your bank bag or envelope in your vehicle when you exit at your next destination, even if it's your residence
