Temple students package thousands of meals for Haiti

Students in Temple package food for Haiti

TEMPLE - 6 thousand meals are being sent to Haiti from Central Texas and it's all thanks to a group of students in Temple. Dozens of students at Wheatley Alternative Education Center packaged rice meals to send to Haiti through the local non profit Kids Against Hunger. The students are doing so in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew that wiped out a significant amount of Haiti's food supply. Officials with the non profit and school say they hope the kids learned the importance of hard work and giving to those less fortunate.

"Even though there's seven billion people in the world they still count. They matter to society, they matter to their families and right now they matter to the kids in Haiti" says Jeff Pedigo, Kids Against Hunger Executive Director.

"For me to be able to help it just makes me feel better " says Keziah Granados, Wheatley student.

"We think it's important and the kids have bought into it, they're doing the right thing, working hard and helping someone else" says Carl Pleasant, Wheatley Principal.

Kids Against Hunger will host three more packaging events next week. For information on ways to donate to this cause visit www.fillthebowl.com
