Tipsy Tow partners with AAA to give drivers a safe alternative

Jasmine Caldwell reports.

Independence Day is less than 24 hours away and there are a lot of events happening all throughout central Texas.

In effort to make sure you stay safe on the roads AAA is teaming up with local towing companies to help drivers who may have had a little too much to drink.

The Fourth of July holiday is a cause for celebration – from fireworks to a few beers, the “Tipsy Tow” program is an option for drunk drivers that do not have a safe ride home.

Waco Towing is teaming up with AAA to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road. Texas drivers who have had too much to drink will provided a free tow through the “Tipsy Tow” program.

From 6:00 a.m. July 4 to 6:00 a.m. July 5th, bartenders, or even restaurant managers can call for a free tow for up to 10 miles.

The owner of Waco towing, Clayton Elmore said this helps to save lives.

“Take a minute to save yourself some money by not going to jail,” Elmore said. “A DUI and DWI will cost you a lot of money and the tow is free to go home – and you’re not going to kill anybody or hurt yourself.”

Situations that do not qualify for “Tipsy Tow” are customers who request to have an inoperable vehicle towed.

Customers can not request a ride from one bar to another, you have to go straight home.
