Tonkawa Falls swimming area closes on Monday over shallow water

A popular central Texas swimming area is shutting down just as the summer starts heating up.

The Crawford Police Department announced on Facebook Friday that it would close the Tonkawa Falls swimming area beginning Monday, July 10.

Police said the falls were not running like they normally do, and the depth of the swimming area has been dropping.

"The water is and will continue to become more stagnant with the heat," police said. "The closing is being done for the health and safety of all."

Police said because there was no significant rainfall in the forecast, the swimming area's condition was expected to continue to deteriorate and swimmers should pass the closure notice along to family and friends.
