University High administrators resign in wake of grading scandal

three University High administrators have resigned as a result of the investigation.

WACO - Waco ISD accepted the resignation of three University High School administrators Friday according to Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Bonny Cain.

Among the people who resigned is UHS Principal Dr. Kendra Strange. Her resignation became effective on November 4, 2016. She served as principal for one year.

Dean of Instruction Ronnie Massey and Senior Class Counselor Mindy Place also resigned their positions effective on January 27, 2017.

The resignations come after the law firm Walsh, Gallegos, Trevino, Russo and Kyle found discrepancies in reporting grades and attendance.

The investigation, which was made public on October 26, found some UHS seniors graduated in June without meeting state requirements.

The first reported notice of grade and attendance reports was received on June 3, 2016 just a day before UHS's graduation ceremony.

The discovered irregularities involved proper procedures not being followed in making up credit for excessive absences or unacceptable course work, a lowered standard for course work acceptable to graduate, and whether students were properly given state-allowed opportunities to re-test.

The principal, dean, and head counselor have all been on paid leave since the early stages of these investigations.
