Veterans Take Part In 6-Day Bike Ride Through Texas

More than 70 veterans passed through Fort Hood on their journey to Houston.

FORT HOOD- More than 70 veterans took part in a 6-day journey from San Antonio to Houston, making a stop on Fort Hood.

The bike ride is put on by Project Hero. It's a chance to reunite veterans and help victims of PTSD heal.

Director of Marketing for Project Hero, Peter Bylsma, said the event was "a therapeutic bike ride through Texas that allows our PTSD veterans to grow as a community and set goals and meet those goals and have a unique experience with a peer-to-peer environment."

Leila Raffiee-Shirazi, a navy veteran, said these bike rides actually helped her reduce the use of medicine. She said it's the best form of therapy.

The group of veterans said they would stay overnight in Waco before continuing their journey to Hearn. They also planned to visit the George W. Bush Library and Museum before finishing off the journey in Houston.
