Woodlands High football player in coma after injury during playoff game in Waco

Grant Milton's family releases a statement.

A Woodlands High School football player was seriously injured Saturday evening during a playoff game, according to the Waco Police Department.

Grant Milton was treated on the field at McLane Stadium before he was taken to the hospital to be treated.

Sgt. Patrick Swanton, with the Waco Police, said Milton came off the field after taking a hit and later passed out on the sideline and started having seizures.

Milton's family gave Waco Police an update Monday afternoon.

"Everyone has been so supportive and we can't thank you enough for your prayers," the statement read.

"Grant is still in critical condition and in a coma. His recent CT scan continues to improve. His medications have been reduced today and he showed positive signs of movement and strength in his upper body.

His vital signs are strong and anyone who knows Grant would say he is STRONG and SPIRITED. The doctors indicate he is trending in the right direction and that his youthfulness and strength are on his side."

Grant Milton's father released the following update:

“We are encouraged by continued stability in Grant's vital signs. He remains in a coma and is still on a ventilator, although most of the breathing is coming from him. Grant responded to our voices this morning and blinked his eyes slightly. He also moved both arms in response. I wish we had more to report but doctors have told us that this is a journey. We are all tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, support and prayers for Grant. The Woodlands community, Greater Houston, Austin, Dallas , Waco and outreach from across the country. God is good. So many of you we know and many more we don't. You all are important to us and Grant's healing. Grant is amazing young man. Prayers are strong medicine, we appreciate each and every one.”
