MCLENNAN COUNTY - The McLennan County Public Health District confirmed on Friday the county's first death related to the West Nile Virus in 2016. Details of the case are not being made public, although they are saying the patient was a male.
The district is also asking people to continue to protect themselves from mosquitoes even as temperatures cool off heading into the Fall. Measures to protect yourself include using mosquito repellent, draining standing or stagnant water and wearing long sleeves when possible. Mosquito season is expected to continue for at least another two months.
There have been four other cases of documented West Nile Virus in McLennan County so far this year.
