Channel 6 news reporter Emani Payne reports

WOODWAY - Nine people were arrested over the weekend by Woodway Police department in a prostitution sting.

The three-day operation targeted prostitution and other related criminal offenses.

Officials said the investigation focused on both prostitutes that advertised their services online as well as people responding to ads for those services.

It's the city's second sting operation in the past few months and this one netted 17 separate charges for the suspects.

Woodway police said this is a growing problem in the area.

Officers said they tried to arrest 27-year-old Bill Linkous for meeting up with a prostitute he got in his car and drove off leading officers on a chase.

Linkous crashed his car into a parked car in the 100 block of Taos Drive. He grabbed a shield and a samurai sword from his car and tried to fight off officers.

One officer was injured from the sword. He was treated at a local hospital and later released. He is expected to return by the end of the week.

Woodway police said it was a dangerous situation but they're glad one more criminal is off the street.

"This guy, one they prey on women, two there's a lot of trafficking that's going on and we try to do everything that we can to capture as many as we can," Chief Yost Sakhary said. "And this was a short operation this was our second and both were successful."
