(KCEN) -- Hundreds of people in Texas and 17 others states are sick due to a strain of salmonella and medicine may not be able to help.
The nationwide outbreak is linked to a California chicken company.
Nearly 300 people are sick from salmonella linked to Foster Farms chicken products.
Food safety workers are being called back from furlough to work on this investigation.
A spokesman for the Texas Department of Health Services says, he could not specify which parts of Texas were affected.
The strain concerns doctors because typical antibiotics don't seem to stop the disease.
