There’s big news about child booster seats and it comes as a surprise to highway safety experts as well as booster seat manufacturers.
Every parent who buckles a child into a booster seat will likely love hearing what the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has said about boosters.
IIHS Senior Engineer Jessica Jermakian said 48 out of 53 got the top rating.
“When we first began our ratings in 2008, only about a quarter got the top rating of ‘Best Bet’, and this year, 48 out of 53 got the top rating,” Jermakian said.
Consumers were told to avoid only two.
“Unfortunately there were a couple that made our not recommended list,” she said. “Those are two boosters made by Dorel that put the lap belt too high on the child’s belly.”
Dorel has top picks on the latest list. However, they did not respond to NBC News request for comment.
Researchers are crowing about the boosters that work. Jermakian said this is really good news for parent and they can feel confident when they are out shopping for a booster.
“The vast majority of boosters they’re looking at will provide good belt fit across a range of vehicles,” she said.
Boosters are mainly meant for children 4 to 8-years-old and can be a life saver.
