State Representative Hugh Shine will host a public forum for Bell County residents -- a day before the Texas Legislature's Special Session -- at 7 a.m. Monday at the Temple Chamber of Commerce located at 2 N 5th Street in Temple.
Shine went through eight special sessions when he served as a state representative the first time -- back in 1989. He said Monday's event would give his constituents the opportunity to weigh in on the 20 items, including school finance reform, up for discussion during this session. Shine said there would also be an update on legislative efforts to shore up property tax reform.
“The last piece of the puzzle is to bring taxpayers some form of relief on their tax bills,” Shine said. “I have spent the last four weeks meeting with officials representing municipalities, county governments, appraisers and appraisal districts, and, most importantly, representatives for the taxpayer. There is still more work to be done, but I am confident the progress we have made is taking Texas in the right direction.”
The Special Session begins Tuesday in Austin. For details on the forum, call 254-773-2105.
