(KCEN)—On Friday Waco Police officers stayed busy as they responded to multiple car accidents and flooded streets as the rain continued to pour for hours.
By noon, Waco Sergeant Patrick Swanton said there had been several fender benders and major accidents on I-35. "We did have crashes with injuries, but noting that I'm hearing at this point as life threatening. They probably got a little banged up." Swanton said.
In addition to the rain and accidents slowing down traffic, several road blocks were set up after drivers were getting stuck in flooded intersections. The main problem area was the intersection of I-35 and University Park Drive where there were several feet of standing water for hours.
"We had several vehicles stranded in the water, and our officers actually had to wad in about two to three feet of water to help get those vehicles and people out," Swanton said.
Construction equipment was brought in to the intersection to help move the water down the street to drain. After a few hours the intersection was opened back up.
"If you don't have to be out in these kind of weather related events stay home. It's much safer," Swanton said.
