Tyler man shows up to jury duty with beer in hand, allegedly drunk

TYLER - TYLER, Texas -- A 23-year-old Tyler man was arrested Wednesday at the Smith County Courthouse after he showed up for jury duty looking sluggish and slurring his speech, according to law enforcement.

The man approached several courthouse employees, who reported him to sheriff’s deputies.

The deputies said the man, later identified as Taylor Huckaby, was walking in an unstable manner and appeared to not be in a normal mental state, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

After identifying the man, deputies asked Huckaby what was in the large Coca Cola cup he was carrying. Taylor tried to leave the courthouse, but deputies took the cup and found what appeared to be beer inside.

Taylor was booked into the Smith County Jail on public intoxication, where he remains on a $260 bond. He has previously been arrested this year for public intoxication and driving under the influence.

Tyler Morning Telegraph contributed to this report.
