Baylor Overpowers Texas Tech Late to Give Bears 3-1 Victory

LUBBOCK, Texas – For the second-straight match the Baylor Bears dropped the first set, but rebounded with a strong effort to take a 16-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-20 victory over Texas Tech at United Spirit Arena. Laura Jones matched a career high with 16 kills and had her second-consecutive double-double with 14 kills.

Baylor dominated the block with 12 compared to Texas Tech's 6.5 with Tola Itiola leading the Bears with six. Adrien Richburg didn't suffer an attacking error with 12 kills and a .600 hitting percentage, and Zoe Adom added 10 kills in the victory.

The Bears (11-13, 3-5) hit .257 as a team and held the Red Raiders (8-16, 1-7) to a .193 hitting effort in the loss. Meghan Stacy matched Jones' 16 kills for Texas Tech and Aubree Piper added 11 kills while Rachel Brummit led the match with 21 digs for TTU.


  *   Laura Jones matched a career high with 16 kills, and she hit .324. Jones last had 16 kills Aug. 25, 2012 against Nevada.
  *   Jones also upped her career high from Wednesday night's match with KSU as she led Baylor with 14 kills, topping Wednesday's total of 13.
  *   Adrien Richburg had zero attacking errors with 12 kills, and hit .600 for the match.

3 – The number of times Richburg has had zero attacking errors this season with at least nine kills: 10-0-10 vs. SMU 09/03, 9-0-13 vs. Appalachian State 09/13, and Saturday vs. Texas Tech 12-0-20.

.394 – Baylor's hitting percentage in the fourth set to help the Bears close out the match. The team had 15 kills and just two errors on 33 attempts.

The Bears will look for three-straight Big 12 wins on the road Wednesday at Kansas in a match nationally televised by ESPNU at 6 p.m.
