Abbott claims first state title, beating Fayetteville 11-7

Abbott defeated Fayetteville 11-7 Saturday to win the school's first ever state title.

ROUND ROCK - The Abbott Panthers are kings of 1A baseball for the first time in school history.

In the school's first trip to state since 1985 and only the second appearance overall, the Panthers beat Fayetteville 11-7 in the State Championship Game to bring home the gold.

Adding to Friday's no-hitter in the semifinals, junior pitcher Hunter "Joe Bob" Pope pitched 2.0 innings without allowing a hit and holding the Lions scoreless.
