Baylor Equestrian's Demel Wins AQHA Horsemanship Challenge Title

Baylor equestrian junior western rider Abbi Demel beat out a 16-person field of the top collegiate riders in the country over the two-day AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge, taking the championship title on Sunday evening during the Lucas Oil AQHA World Championship Show in Oklahoma City, Okla.

After advancing through two rounds on Saturday afternoon, Demel went head-to-head with the other three remaining riders in the final round.

Demel was joined by Rachel Williams (Fresno State), Kara Kaufmann (Auburn), and Payton Anderson (Georgia).

The Hoisington, Kan., native was named champion, while Kaufmann took the reserve title.

Demel is the first rider in program history to win the annual challenge, now in its sixth year since its inception in 2012.
