Baylor Outlasts Houston in Five Sets

HOUSTON, Texas - The Baylor Bears outlasted the University of Houston in five sets Saturday night 25-13, 17-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-13 at the Athletics / Alumni Center in the final match of the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup.

In a see-saw battle, the Bears came out on top, hitting .233 for the match, with strong performances from Laura Jones and Nicole Bardaji. Both were named to the all-tournament team as Jones tallied 31 kills in three matches and Bardaji had 37. Saturday night, Jones led Baylor with 13 kills on a .273 hitting percentage while Bardaji added a dozen and had five total blocks.

Baylor (7-8) took sets one, three and five to take its second consecutive road win while the Cougars dropped their sixth-straight match to fall to 7-7 on the season. Houston's Sarita Mikals had 18 kills while Kadi Kullerkann and Emily Howard each had 14 for the Cougars.

In the fifth set, Baylor jumped out to a 5-1 lead and held on as Houston cut the lead to 13-12. The Bears, then got a kill from Bardaji for set point, but a service error gave the Cougars back service, down 14-13. However, the match ended on a ball-handling error by Houston's Sophie Paine.

LSU won the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup winning all three matches, Baylor took second at 2-1, North Texas finished at 1-2 and the Cougars were winless.
