LOS ANGELES –
Despite the biggest upset win of Jordaan Sanford's career, Baylor's 18th-ranked women's tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 3 UCLA on Monday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Sanford secured a 6-3, 6-2 victory over ninth-ranked Chanelle Van Nguyen at the No. 3 spot in singles action, but that was the only point the Lady Bears would claim on the day.
In doubles play, UCLA controlled the matches on courts one and two from the onset to claim the opening point. First, Alex Leatu and Sanford dropped an 8-1 decision to No. 11 Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips at the No. 2 spot. Then the 42nd-ranked duo of Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle fell to the country's top-ranked tandem of Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady, 8-3.
In singles action, Baylor dropped five of six first sets with Sanford snagging the lone victory. At the top of the lineup, the 38th-ranked Kiah Generette could not get past third-ranked Anderson, 6-0, 6-3, as UCLA took a 2-0.
Sanford then finished off her victory to close the gap to 2-1.
However, the Bruins would get wins from the 36th-ranked McPhillips over Kisialeva, 6-3, 6-2, on court 5, before No. 19 Jennifer Brady clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-4 triumph against the 56th-ranked Ema Burgic.
· Baylor fell to 9-4 overall on the season and 5-4 vs. ranked opponents
· All four Baylor losses have come vs. top-15 ranked opponents.
· Baylor still leads the all-time series vs. UCLA, 5-4, but has lost the last three in the series.
· Sanford has won four straight matches and is 10-1 in dual-match play.
STAT OF THE MATCH
9 - the ranking of Jordaan Sanford's opponent, Chanelle Van Nguyen. It was the best win of Sanford's career. The previous highest-ranked opponent Sanford had defeated was No. 55 Nazari Urbina of Texas A&M on April 3, 2013.

The Lady Bears will have a quick turnaround as they face No. 6 USC on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.
