several medical scratches, Baylor track and field freshman Trayvon
Bromell has garnered a spot in the 60-meter dash at the NCAA Indoor
Championships, the NCAA Committee announced
The first-year sprinter will join four other Bears, who were already slated to compete at the national meet on Friday and Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M., at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Bromell currently owns the 20th-fastest 60-meter time in the country with a mark of 6.65, which he has run on two occasions this season. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native has posted six times under 6.70 this year and finished third at the Big 12 Championships in the event on March 1.
Bromell's run at the event will start with the semifinals of the 60-meter dash at 8:25 p.m. CT on Friday. He will be looking to make it into the eight-man finals of the event, which take place on Saturday at 8 p.m.
Joining Bromell at the NCAA Championships is senior Tiffani McReynolds, who will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, while junior Rachel Johnson will take part in the 3,000-meter run. Sophomores Felix Obi and Brianna Richardson will both represent the Bears in the triple jump.
That quartet of athletes each posted a mark in their individual event among the top 16 in the country this season to automatically qualify for the NCAA field.
