– Baylor men's tennis junior Michel Dornbusch was named the Big 12 Player of the Week by conference officials on Tuesday.
Dornbusch posted a perfect 4-0 record in competition last week, including two singles wins and two wins in doubles that helped BU down two ranked foes. The two wins pushed Baylor's win streak to 10 and raised its record to 18-4.
In a 4-0 victory against No. 25 South Florida on Wednesday, Dornbusch and Diego Galeano teamed up to record an 8-5 win in the No. 2 spot to clinch the doubles point for BU. From there, Dornbusch cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win in singles on court five to put the Bears up 2-0.
Dornbusch and partner Julian Lenz provided the point deciding victory on Sunday in BU's first conference match of the season against 28th-ranked Texas Tech. In singles, Dornbusch went on to secure his second straight-set victory of the week 6-3, 6-3 on court six to give the Bears a 3-0 lead in the match.
Dornbusch boasts a 7-5 singles dual-match record and has amassed an impressive 9-1 mark in doubles playing with three different partners.
It is Baylor's 35th Big 12 weekly honor since 2000. Dornbusch is one of 15 different Bears to be recognized in that stretch.
BU women's player, Jordaan Sanford, earned the league's women's Player of the Week award.
It is the first time a Baylor men's and women's tennis player have won the award in the same week since Patrick Pradella and Ema Burgic accomplished the feat on April 23, 2013.
Baylor will be in action on Tuesday night as the Bears travel to face TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.
