Highlander basketball star in semi-finals of national slam dunk competition

Former McLennan Highlander basketball standout Jerran Young has advanced to the semifinal round of the 2014 State Farm Dark Horse Dunker Competition. The four remaining remaining finalist are from schools outside the national spotlight and possess the leaping ability, creativity and power to compete against college basketball's stars.

The winner of the contest will advance to the NCAA Final Four Slam Dunk Contest in Dallas to be televised live on ESPN on April 3. Fans determine the winner by voting daily on Facebook (www.Facebook.com/CollegeSlam) .

The State Farm Dark Horse Dunker Competition is a bracket-style elimination competition. The competition began Feb. 10 with 16 finalists. The semi-finals features two head-to-head matchups, Jordan Adams of Western State Colorado vs. Justin Simmons of Omaha and Marcus Lewis of Eastern Kentucky vs. Young of Wright State.

Voting for the finals begins March 10. Fans can view a video of each dunker and cast their vote at http://bit.ly/1iRTWBR.
