TYLER, TEXAS - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s tennis team closed out play at the Oracle/ITA Southwest Regional Tournament with a third day of competition on Sunday in Tyler.


In flight “A” men’s singles, Scott Wilding advanced with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over U.T.-Tyler’s Joey Fischer. Wilding then fell to Trinity University’s Mckenna Fujitani 6-4, 7-5 in the Quarterfinals.


In flight “B” singles, Alex Mackellar fell to Austin Crist of Trinity 6-4, 6-1 in second round action. In “B” consolation, Jace Mahan was defeated 7-6(4), 7-5 by Schreiner’s Isaac Vasquez.


In flight “C” singles, Brian Martin topped LeTourneau’s Robby Bundy 3-6, 7-5, 10-8 to advance to the Quarterfinals. He then lost to ETBU’s Joseph Salinas 3-6, 6-3, 10-7.


In the “Orange” singles consolation bracket, Chase Van Cleave beat Damien Blanco of Sul Ross State 6-0, 6-2. He then advanced to the Championship Match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Howard Payne’s Ryan Barnett. He would top Nathan Talburt of Hardin-Simmons 6-3, 6-2 to win the consolation championship.


In championship flight doubles, Wilding and Cole Weiss fell to U.T.-Tyler’s Arthur Fagundes and Vinicio Hadlich 8-1 in second round play.


In flight “B” doubles, Mackellar and Julian Dunmore lost to Schreiner’s Andrew Albright and Victor Martinez 8-5 in the opening round. Van Cleave and Martin dropped an 8-5 decision to Hoanh Le and Luis Cabreja of Schreiner University.


In flight “C” singles, Mahan and Jake Boles opened with an 8-0 victory over Walker Murray and Clarence Lakins of Ozarks. The duo then lost to Marvin Greiner and Alfonso Medina of U.T.-Tyler 8-5 in the second round.


The tournament runs through Monday in Tyler. The ITA Southwest Regional closes out the fall schedule for the UMHB men.
