Volleyball's Staiger Tabbed Unanimous Preseason All-Big 12

WACO, Texas - Baylor senior outside hitter Katie Staiger has been named a unanimous Preseason All-Big 12 selection, selected by a vote of the league’s head coaches and announced Wednesday by the conference office.

“There is a lot of elite level talent in our conference, and Katie Staiger is definitely worthy to be part of such a group,” head coach Ryan McGuyre said. “Her work ethic and dedication really allowed her to flourish and be a strong force in conference last season. I believe we will have several other athletes make the same jump alongside her this season as well. Her best volleyball is still ahead.”

The Plano native found herself at the top of the record books last season, notching 698 kills in 2016 to break the program’s single-season kills record. She also finished with the fourth-most kills in the country, pacing the Bears with 6.00 kills per set.

The 2016 Second Team All-American looks to continue climbing the program records list as she is eighth in career kills with 1,343 entering her redshirt senior season.

The Big 12 will release the 2017 preseason poll on Thursday.

Baylor will look to build on last year’s NCAA Tournament run, entering the third year with head coach Ryan McGuyre at the helm. The Bears finished with a 22-12 overall record and a 9-7 mark in conference play.

The Bears kick off the 2017 season on Aug. 25 against Florida State, hosting the Hampton Inn & Suite Waco North Baylor Invitational at the Ferrell Center.
