Many people have asked how I became interested in weather and just like many kids, it started with a fear of thunderstorms and tornadoes when I was young. I grew up in Waco where we saw our fair share of severe storms. My parents encouraged me to read about weather and the more I read, the more interested I became. After a visit to the local tv weather station, I knew that I wanted to tell people the weather! My studies took me to Baylor University where I learned even more about weather patterns and prediction and graduated with a degree in Earth Science.
I took a job as weekend meteorologist in Victoria, Texas and learned a lot about coastal weather as well as hurricanes (2005 was the most active tropical year on record!). I then made my way up to Lubbock where I really began to understand the dynamics of severe storms and even do some tornado chasing. After forecasting in West Texas for two and a half years, it was time to come home.
I’m so glad to be forecasting for an area that I love at a station that really cares for the safety of Cenral Texas residents.
When I’m not in the NBC Weather Plus storm center, I’m usually spending time with my niece, nephew and family in town. I love cooking, baking and painting (when I have some spare time) and being involved in community events.
It’s good to be home.
