Man indicted for crime spree spanning two Central Texas counties

Posted: Updated:

A McLennan County Grand Jury indicted a Killeen man on charges of attempted capital murder.

44-year-old Jose Maria Garcia was arrested in Killeen after sending police scrambling across two counties. On December 13th, 2010, police say Garcia stole a car, then shot at and ran over a Falls County Sheriff's Deputy.

Garcia then allegedly dumped that car and ran to a Shell gas station in Bruceville-Eddy. That's where investigators say he shot a male customer and stole his car.

That lead to a police chase all the way to Salado. But officers did not find him there. Killeen police arrested Garcia during a traffic stop on December 14th.

The deputy and carjacking victim have recovered.
