Chef Tai Lee thought he had no chance placing 190th in the Food Network competition just a week ago. But Thursday night, the Bryan/College Station chef help the top spot on the Food Network's "Great Food Truck Race" competition.
If he holds on through September 12 and becomes America's favorite, Chef Tai could receive $10,000 to outfit his mobile gourmet and a chance to compete in the show's next season.
While the votes continue to pour in, Chef Tai continues to cook food for everyone who visits his mobile truck. He parks it at a different spot on B/CS streets each weekday during lunch and diner. A roach coach it is not...
"We've been doing high end culinary style of the restaurants for years and we bring same attitude and same essence to the mobile cuisine, only handicap is yes you don't have air conditioning," said Chef Tai.
"The food is awesome, he's always creative, uses great, fresh ingredients, it's something different, that's why we follow him," said Keith Hall, who drives from his house nearby to grab lunch every time Chef Tai's truck is in South College Station.
